Michael Edward Miller

August 20, 1957 — February 24, 2025

Appleton

Michael Edward Miller, age 67, passed away on February 24, 2025 from a cardiac episode. Michael was born on August 20, 1957, to James and Joyce (Williams) Miller in Johnson City, TN. His youth was spent in various military bases around the world until returning to Johnson City to attend East Tennessee State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Art. Upon moving to Appleton in 2008, he began work at A2Z The Agency as a Senior Graphic Designer and made a home and surrounded himself with wonderful friends who became family.

Michael was a true southern gentleman with a gentle soul and a big heart. Michael showed his quiet spirit and love for family and friends in many ways. His love language was food and he freely shared his delicious creations as a way to bring joy to others. From pumpkin muffins to meatloaf and scalloped potatoes – he always added some Velveeta in memory of his mom. Michael loved to entertain and host beautiful and memorable dinner parties. His culinary talents and creations earned him the nickname “Martha Miller.”

Michal was an artist and he found creativity and beauty in the world around him. It has been a joy for his family and friends to discover some of his early creations. Michael freely shared his skills throughout his career as a graphic designer. Michael’s designs will live on in the work he created for clients that ranged from global companies like Coca-Cola and Saab to local non-profit organizations including Catalpa Health, Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, Trout Museum of Art, Appleton Boy Choir and United Way Fox Cities.

The world may be a little less colorful and kind without Michael’s talent and warmth. Together, we can ensure his legacy lives on by performing random acts of kindness and taking time to be creative and enjoy the beauty around us. So, bake those muffins for your neighbor, give your friends a hug, call your family, take a hike in the woods or visit a place that brings you inspiration.

Michael is survived by his sister Nancy Miller (Christopher Arsenault) of Big Pine Key, Florida; his brother Thomas (Dawn) Miller and nephew Timothy of Oakland, Kentucky and his niece Sydnie (Andy) Baker and great nephew Ellis of Sandy, Utah. Michael was preceded in death by his father James Miller and his mother Joyce (Williams) Miller.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra (www.foxvalleysymphony.com) or Special Olympics Wisconsin (www.specialolympicswisconsin.org) in his memory.

A celebration of Michael’s remarkable, inspiring, and artistic life will take place in the coming months. Until then, live without fear, inspire others and share your love with all who surround you.
