Michael P. Hertziger

August 28, 1948 — April 13, 2025

Menasha

Michael Paul Hertziger, age 76, of Menasha, WI, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 13th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on August 28th, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio. Michael was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He served his country honorably in the Vietnam War. His strength, courage, and resilience extended far beyond the battlefield, shaping the life he would build and the family he would love fiercely. After relocating to Appleton, WI, he met his one true love, Julie Kasten. They married on August 11th, 1979, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI, and began a beautiful life together.

On June 18th, 1981, they were blessed with their first child, Michael Paul II, and on May 21st, 1986, their family grew with the birth of their daughter, Tricia Mabel. Their love and legacy continued to flourish with six cherished grandchildren: Cayden, Henry, and Blake Hertziger, and Deztynie, Landon, and Jaycee Greisch. These six grandchildren were wrapped around Papa’s finger and could do no wrong. They were the light of his life. Michael was the beloved father of Michael Hertziger II (Tammy) of Larsen, Tricia Greisch of Menasha. His loyal dog, GG, remained by his side through it all, bringing comfort and companionship. Now, in Heaven, he is reunited with his beloved dog, Laci, who he missed deeply. Michael has a very beloved brother, Brian Hertziger (Heather) of Schaumburg, IL.

Michael is survived by his wife, Julie; his children; and his grandchildren. Michael is also survived by his in-laws; Carolyn (Steve) of Waupaca; Pam (Brian) Phillips of San Antonio, TX; Dollie Kasten of Shawano; Debra (Michael) Parker of Greenville, and Vivian Kasten, Jerry Kasten, and Tina Fafnis, all of Appleton.

Michael was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Germaine Kasten; his brother-in-law, Bruce Kasten; and his sister-in-law, Mary Krause.

For 45 years, Michael shared a deep and faithful bond with his wife, Julie. Together, they created a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories, including many cherished moments up north at Captain’s Cove with his wife and grandchildren. Michael loved going golfing at Captain’s Cove golf outings and spending time with family and friends around the campfire. He enjoyed cruising around the campground on his golf cart with his best friend, GG.

Michael was a man of quiet strength, deep values, and unconditional love. He had a way of making people feel safe just by being near, and his family always knew that no matter what, he would be there—whether it was up north or at one of the countless sporting events. He taught through example, supported without question, and loved without limits.

He will be remembered for his courage, his gentle heart, and the steady guidance he offered his children and grandchildren. His presence filled every room, and his absence will be felt forever.

A celebration of life will be held on April 25th, 2025, at Tri County Chapel - Wichman’s Funeral Home at 1592 S Oneida St. in Menasha. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the service at 4:00 pm. All who knew and loved Michael are welcome to come and honor the life of a man who gave so much.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the DAV (disabled American Veterans) and the family asks that you remember Michael by showing up for your loved ones the way he always did—strong, steady, and full of love.

Though he is no longer by our side, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace, surrounded by love, and watching over all of us. We will carry him in our hearts—always.
