Age 93, beloved husband of Laurine King, passed to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 6, 2001. He was born on October 18, 1907, in Appleton, the son of the late Michael and Eva (Guckenberg) King. Mike was a resident of Appleton all his life. He graduated from St. Joseph’s School in 1921 and then Appleton High School in 1925. Mike served for fifty years on his high school class committee. He was an avid reader and a Packer fan. Mike was employed by Bassett Inc. for over twenty years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; he served over twenty years in the ministry of sharing his time, talents and gifts. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, being a Secretary of their bowling league for forty-six seasons. Mike was Secretary for the Super Senior League for thirteen seasons as well as Grocers League, along with three-man scratch summer leagues. He was the past President of Appleton Bowling Association and became a member of their Hall of Fame. Mike was an enthusiastic sportsman. He greatly loved fishing at his cottage with his wife and family on Archibald Lake, where he was a Secretary for their lake association. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Laurine (Fischer) King; a son, Robert (Joan) of Barrington, IL; two daughters, Eva Lou Schmidt of Neenah; Barbara (Robert) Boyer of Green Bay; twelve grandchildren, Michael, Gregory, Donald and Philip Schmidt, Lou Ann Harding, Lynn Bednarowski, Catherine Elliott, Constance Einecker, Kevin King, Russell King, Pamela George and Dean Boyer; eighteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Martha (Vanden Boom) King and an infant son, Charles. The Mass of Resurrection for Michael will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2001, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence Street, Appleton, the Rev. Michael K. O’Rourke officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. with the rosary being recited at 10:00 a.m.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who assisted in fulfilling his life so completely.
Michael, as a dad, grandpa and great grandpa, we have been enriched by your many years of love, care and service.
