Michael (Mike) M, Fitzgerald, age 44, Appleton Wisconsin, died unexpectedly on March 1, 2008 of brain trauma caused by a stroke. Mike was born on May 7, 1963, in Mondovi Wisconsin, and graduated from Mondovi High School in 1981. He then attended Chippewa Valley Technical College where he graduated with an associate degree. Mike had a long career in printing and newspapering most recently with WS Packaging Neenah, WI. He started his career at the Mondovi Herald as a printer and compositor. Following that he worked for Lavine Media with the Chippewa Herald Telegram and the Shawano Evening Leader. After spending several years with Shokopee Valley Printing as a customer service manager, he moved to Sauk Center, MN and worked with Banta Publishing in Long Prairie. From 1999-2007 he worked in advertising operations for the Gannett Company in Oshkosh and Appleton. Mike loved children and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed boating, cooking, dining out (especially hibachi), vacationing and spending time in Door County. Mike also enjoyed photography and had a special knack for getting in every shot. While living in Oshkosh he was a member of the Oshkosh Southwest Rotary and was a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fox Valley. Survivors include his mother Theresa Fitzgerald of Mondovi, and his father Merle (Donna) Fitzgerald of Ladysmith; his sister Debra “Debbie” (Gary) Skoug; his brother Jeffery J. Fitzgerald (friend Sara); and his sister Dawn (Dennis) Dziekan all of Mondovi. He is further survived by his fiancée Marilyn Duquaine and her son Jordan of De Pere; his nieces and nephews, Tracy, (Dan) Olson, and their children Boe and CorDel; Tanya (Jamie) Crawford and their children Montana and Lance; Tiffany (Nate) Kees and their children Claira and Grant; Pat (Tonja) Skoug, and their children Miranda, Austin and Jordon, Osseo; Billy (Cheryl) Skoug, and their children, Logan, Nathan and Katie, Osseo; Renee Walker, and her children Steven, RayAnne and Ben, Osseo; and Jeremy, Jessica and Kennedy Fitzgerald; and Kyle, Cody and Cassidy Dziekan; and his grandmother, Leona Fitzgerald, all of Mondovi. He is also survived by special friends Paul, Katie, Samuel, Alexandria and Amelia Gaier of Appleton. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard Fitzgerald, John “Jack” and Emma Komro. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. Quinn Mann officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. There will be a celebration of life later this spring in Mondovi WI. Mike's family would like to extend a special thanks to the critical care staff at Theda-Clark Medical Center for their loving care.
