Merlin H. Putz, a child of God, was called home on Friday, May 24, 2024, at his home. Merlin was born November 24, 1935, son of the late John and Esther (Lorenz) Putz. Merlin attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota as well as Winona State University, and received credentials to teach the truths of scripture to the young people in the congregations he served, including Northwood, Iowa, Wrightstown, Crete, Illinois, and most recently at Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton where he taught history and typing. Merlin retired in 2001.
He will be remembered as a faithful servant of the Lord and led by example. He was regular with his church attendance, hearing the word, and served as a Pioneer Leader and Sunday School Teacher. He was selfless with his time at church - his love for the Lord was so evident!
He loved his vegetable garden for so many years and enjoyed canning the fruits of his labors. Many family and friends are benefits of his labors.
Merlin is survived by his wife: Elaine Putz; five children: Mark (Yvonne) Putz, Michael (Sheryl) Putz, Laurie (Robert) Tancula, Martin (Lisa) Putz, and Lynne Putz. There are also fifteen grandchildren: Hannah Putz, A.J. (Kate) Hall, Tyler (Stephanie) Putz, Cameron (Meagan) Putz, Mieka Putz, Rebekah Putz, Patrick Tancula, Joseph (Payge) Tancula, Charlie (Katherine) Tancula, Matthew Tancula, Leah Putz, Nick Putz, Manny Putz, Robert Tarter, and Elaine Tarter. The great-grandchildren are Paisely, Adeline, and Tyler Ryan.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin (Edna) Putz and Leonard (Iva) Putz, and a grandson Ian Putz.
The Christian Memorial Service for Merlin will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, located at 930 E. Florida Avenue in Appleton, with Rev. Joe Gawel officiating. He will await that glorious day of resurrection at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun, Wisconsin. Visitation will take place on Monday morning (June 10) from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
