Merlin G. Kobussen

May 12, 1930 — February 20, 2004

Age 73, passed away Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Appleton Medical Center following a lengthy battle with diabetes and heart disease. Merlin was born in Kaukauna on May 12, 1930, son of the late George and Grace (Kibby) Kobussen. On November 30, 1952 he married the former Audrey Nieman in Appleton; she survives. After many years of meat sales, Merlin retired and volunteered at the local chapter of the American Red Cross, where he was the chairman of the Disaster Team. He was very proud to have been a bus driver for Lamers Bus Lines for several years. Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years: Audrey Kobussen of Appleton; three sons: Anthony (Kathy) Kobussen of Oconomowoc; Neal (Judy) Kobussen of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Mitch (Ginger) Kobussen of Black Creek; a daughter-in-law: Lisa (Tom) Schultz of Neenah; eight grandchildren: Sara and Stephani Kobussen; Keri and Kimberly Kobussen; Morgan, Jacob, Emily, and Sophie Schultz; a great-grandson: Tyler Kobussen; a brother-in-law: Rudolph (Caroline) Nieman; a sister-in-law: Agnes Nieman; as well as by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Glenn, a brother-in-law Sheldon Nieman, and a sister-in-law Lusetta (Eldred) Tellock.

Funeral services for Merlin will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 23, 2004 at ST. MATTHEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 129 S. Mason Street in Appleton with Rev. Jeffrey Verbeke and Rev. Paul Schuler officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday (TODAY) from 4 – 8 PM and again Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of services.

The family would like to thank the staff on the 4th floor at the Appleton Medical Center, as well as to Dr. McKee and to Dr. Vogt for the loving care and compassion you showed Merlin and his family. Thank you so very much.
