Merlin “Bud” Bellis, age 75, passed away at home surrounded by the loves of his life, on April 8, 2022. Bud was born in Appleton on October 21, 1946, son of Merlin Sr, and Myrtle (Woodworth) Bellis. After graduation from Appleton High School, Bud traveled the United States before landing in Wisconsin to attend UW-Oshkosh earning his degree in Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) Counseling. He was extremely proud of his work with Winnebago County Department of Health counseling addicts. He leaned heavily on his experiences being 17 years sober as he spearheaded the AODA program in the Green Bay prison system.
Bud’s perfect day was sitting in the sun shine on his deck, listening to Uecker on the radio, with a bag of Mike’s popcorn. He also enjoyed reading James Patterson books, listening to jazz music from sun up to sun set, and lunch with his high school buddies. Bud always looked forward to the monthly poker games with “the boys”. Despite the challenges in Buds life, his focus was always on his family. His love never wavered.
Bud will be deeply missed by his children: Phil (Paula) Bellis, Luke (Tina) Bellis, twins Savanna (Fiancé John Selwitschka) Bellis and Patty (Matt) Hager; grandchildren: Jackson, Alayna, John, Scarlett, Talon, Kira, and Beau; as well as his sister and best friend: Cindy Krueger; brother: Mark (Marla) Bellis; and God son Jason Bellis. Bud is further survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Barb Smith; infant son: Jamie Bellis; sister-in-law: Bev Houle; and his beloved dog: Jackie.
