Loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, age 79, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at ManorCare. Merle was born in Lima, Ohio on September 22, 1923, son of the late Gerold and Lena (Sybert) Gilroy. On November 5, 1970, Merle married Lola Faye Schermitzler, and they have enjoyed over 32 years of marriage together. Merle was an Appleton resident for over 40 years. He was employed at Appleton Vault Works. Merle is survived by his wife Lola Faye; his son, William Gilroy; 2 step-sons, Kenneth (Judy) and Ronald R. (Frances) Schermitzler; 2 brothers, Robert (Esther) and Charles (Donna) Gilroy; a sister, Mary Jane Baggs; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Orial Othell Hughes. He is further survived by many special friends. Merle was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Kay Gilroy; step-daughter, Karen Tittel and her husband Hal Tittel; sister, Betty Pauline Molina; 3 nephews, Robert Baags; David Gilroy; Robert David Gilroy; and a brother-in-law, Robert R. Baags. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, December 6, 2002 at WICHMANN TRI COUNTY CHAPEL. The interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, December 6 from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to extend their gratitude to ManorCare and Heartland Hospice, for their special care of Merle.
