Age 95, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, January 24, 2008. He was born on April 20, 1912 in Menasha to the late Otto and Emma (Meyer) Lopas. On May 28, 1949 he was united in marriage to Doris Jansen in Dubuque, Iowa and they shared 58 wonderful years. Jim worked as a sausage maker for Hopfensperger meats and Jacobs Brothers Meat Market. He was a member of the fishing club at Waverly, and a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church for 58 years. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, sturgeon spearing, and was an avid Packers fan.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Doris; his children: Sylvia King, Appleton; James (Kathy) Lopas, Marco Island, FL; Jeffrey (Janet) Lopas, Appleton; grandchildren: Roxanne (William) Martin, Appleton; Jean King, Appleton; Royal King, Appleton; the apples of Grandpa’s eye: Michael and Ryan Lopas; step grandchildren: Jeremy (Jennifer) and Eric (fiancée Lonna) Probst; adopted granddaughter: Kym Davis; great-grandchildren: Colin Martin; Zanna and Gina King; Mariah and Elora King. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral services for Mr. Lopas will be held on Monday, January 28th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church (129 South Mason Street) with Rev. Paul T. Schuler officiating. Friends may call the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Please do not send flowers, instead donations can be made in Jim's name to St. Matthews.
