Age 79, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton. Merl was born in the Town of Center on May 2, 1923 to the late Alvin and Hilda Eickhoff. He exchanged vows with Mildred (Sharpe) Eickhoff on December 11, 1971. He was an inside salesman for Design Air, and also created and developed his own business, Filters Unlimited, until retiring in 1986 to relax and enjoy his many hobbies, which included: keeping his yard in perfect condition and creating works of art with his woodworking. Merl also enjoyed spending time with his family, the company of his dog, Tika, and his participation with his congregation Christ the King Lutheran Church. The house on the lake brought him much pleasure; fishing, boating, and Fourth of July parties.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, his four children and their spouses: Dennis and Lynn Eickhoff, Darboy; Kirk and Linda Eickhoff, Darboy; Tim and Lindsey Eickhoff, Appleton; Mary and Bob Brumm, Kimberly. His stepchildren, Faithe and Dan Daoust, Menasha, Bill and Barb Sharpe, Menasha, Randee and Dan Schmanski, Menasha, Stephanie and John Schubert, Fond du Lac; six grandchildren, Sarah and Eric Eickhoff, Joshua and Leah Eickhoff, Timothy and Nicole Brumm, and great granddaughter, Shanae LaPean, also eleven step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother Garland Eickhoff, sisters-in-law, Iris (Art) Linddauer and Wilma Mader.
Along with his parents, Merl was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Terri Sharpe, his brother, Harlie Eickhoff, and his brother-in-law George Mader.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2002 at 12:00 PM (Noon) at Christ the King (601 S. Washington St., Combined Locks) with Pastor Bill Schroeder officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until the time of service also at church. Interment will take place in Highland Memorial Park.
Memorials may be directed to Christ the King Building Fund. The family wishes to thank Randee and Iris for all of their love and support and also St. Elizabeth Hospital, the many doctors, nurses and staff who helped care for Merl.
