Melvin Peter Van Dyke

Age 89, died on Friday, August 31, 2001 at St. Paul Home. Melvin was born to William and Agnes (Radermacher) Van Dyke on February 26, 1912 in Kaukauna. He graduated from Kaukauna High School in the class of 1930. He was married to Marie A. Marx on June 25, 1941, and they were together for 56 years until her death in 1997. Melvin managed the Vaudette Theater in Kaukauna along with his father William and his brother Clayton. In the early years of the theater he occasionally played the piano for silent films. Melvin was a film projectionist with a deep interest in movies. In later years he enjoyed sketching scenes of his life and family, he also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Melvin is survived by five daughters, Alice (Robert) Hampson, Washington, Illinois; Edith (Wes) Phillips, Winneconne; Mary (James) Athens, Keizer, Oregon; Betty (Richard) Driessen, Kaukauna; Jo Ann (Chris) Greenwood, Phoenix, Arizona; son, Richard G.Van Dyke, Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Eunice Leemon, L’Anse, Michigan; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Melvin is preceded in death by his wife Marie; parents, William and Agnes; brother, Clayton; and one grandchild. The funeral liturgy will be on Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 West Seventh St., Kaukauna, at 11:00a.m. with Fr. Udulutsch officiating. Friends may call at the church at 10:00a.m. A public committal service will take place at St. Mary Cemetery following the service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the St. Paul Nursing Home for their outstanding care and support. A memorial fund is being established.
