Melvin G. Van Asten

VAN ASTEN, MELVIN G.

Melvin Van Asten, of Kimberly, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Care Partners, Little Chute. He was born August 4, 1916 in Freedom, the son of the late Martin and Johanna (Arnoldussen) Van Asten. Melvin served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On October 3, 1946 he married Eugenia Bowers in Wrightstown. Melvin was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Kimberly. He worked at Appleton Paper for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

Melvin is survived by his children: Jenny (Al) Hatton, Kaukauna; Lynn (Jim) De Valk, Little Chute and Richard (Peggy) Van Asten, Darboy; grandchildren: Todd (Karen) Hatton, Wendy Hatton and Adam Hatton; Jason (Jill) De Valk, Heather (John) Woefel and Michelle (Ryan) Pociask; Lisa (Tyler) Romenesko and Brian Van Asten; great-grandchildren: Tiffany, Shaunna, Jack, Erin, Mason, Lindsie, Emmy, Gracie, Trenton, Tyler and Henry; sister-in-law: Cordell Bowers, Kaukauna. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia; brothers: Ray and Clayton Van Asten and his sister, Barbara Van Gompel.

The funeral liturgy for Melvin will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH – KIMBERLY, 600 E. Kimberly Ave. with Fr. David Beaudry officiating. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the time of mass.
