Melva Miller age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 12, 2019. Melva was born in Ogdensburg, Wisconsin on September 21, 1929, daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Hanson) Dain. She was a graduate of Manawa High School, and had lived and worked in Oregon for several years. In 1951 she married William C. Miller; he preceded her in death in 1984. The couple lived at Fort Campbell, Kentucky during the Korean Conflict, then for a short period of time in Kenosha, before settling in Appleton.
Many will remember Melva for her many years of employment at Prange Way in Appleton as well as having been a longtime and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Having been a widow for many years, Melva had become an independent woman who needed to do things on her own. She was a spiritual woman who enjoyed some special things in life. They included tending to the roses that grew alongside her home, caring for the hanging baskets her children brought her each year on Mother’s Day, and feeding and watching her cardinals. She and her husband enjoyed travel and were quite the polka dancers. After Bill’s death, Melva took many bus tours with Nationwide Travelers. She also took a very active role in the lives of her two youngest grandchildren, Dustin and Jazmin. Most of all, she waited for and loved the holidays. She loved having the family together in her home, and treasured the opportunity to prepare the many homemade treats they all would enjoy.
Melva is survived by four loving children: Mike (Michelle) Miller of Escanaba, Marlene (Ken) Wilcox of Weston, Karen (Tony) Kidwell of Trevor, and Beth Wilson of Green Bay. Her grandchildren are Nathan Miller, Erik (Roxanna) Miller, Mary (Patrick) Wilcox – Martin, Elizabeth Wilcox, Jennifer (Matthew) Scharenbroch, Amanda Kidwell, Dustin Wilson, and Jazmin Wilson. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren: Bell, Adeline, Amos, Demetrius, Hope and Evan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Merlyn (Donna) Dain, sisters Ione (Richard) Clapp and Alice (Lloyd) Nelson, a granddaughter Emily Kidwell, and a grandson Cory David Wilson.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Melva’s life on Friday morning, November 15, 2019 at the Wichmann Funeral Home Tri County Chapel, located at 1592 Oneida Street in Fox Crossing. Rev. Brian Bankert will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM and will continue until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. Melva will be laid to rest next her husband at Park Cemetery in Ogdensburg later in the day.
