Age 86, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2004 at St.Elizabeth Hospital. She was born on January 6, 1918 in Phelps, Wisconsin the daughter of the late Raymond and Ida (Fank) Miller. On January 26, 1946 she married John W. Stoffel. Maxine graduated from St. Mary School of Nursing in Wausau, WI. She served her country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps from 1942 to 1945. She was instrumental in establishing the Psychiatric and Alcohol and Drug Abuse Unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital where she worked until she retired in 1984. Maxine was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She is survived by her three daughters Charlene (Richard) Offenbecher of Howards Grove, WI, Marcia (John) de Vos, and Denise Stoffel all of Appleton, her brother John (Johanna) Miller of Antigo, her two sisters-in-law Janet Miller of Neenah, and “Midge” Miller of Shawano, WI; six grandchildren: Rick (Kim) Offenbecher of Madison, Michael (Joan) Offenbecher of Sheboygan, Tina (Brad) Brunmeier of Sheboygan, and Kelly Offenbecher of Howards Grove, WI; Jenny and Luke de Vos of Appleton; and six great grandchildren: Kayla, Nathan, Kristie, Natalie, Ryan, and Cody. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, a sister Olive Kluba, two brothers Bob and Jim Miller.
Parish Prayer Services will be conducted on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 4:00 PM at Wichmann Funeral Home. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for the Council for the Blind.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the Subacute Unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital for all of their kindness and support.
