Maureen Adamski, age 65 died on Good Friday, April 14, 2006 at Cherry Meadows Hospice after a six year battle with lung cancer. She was born in Bellwood, Illinois to the late Herbert and Matilda (King) Straub and was raised in Edgar, Wisconsin. In 1960, Maureen married Leroy Adamski in Chicago; he survives. Over the years, the couple resided in the Detroit area, Milwaukee, Sparta, Hartford, and Appleton. Maureen was employed many years doing general office work for the federal government as well as private industry. Maureen was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mackville, the Appleton Civic League, Fox Valley Postcomers, and the Appleton Women’s Club. She was an active volunteer at the Salvation Army and the Fox Cities Community Clinic. She enjoyed visiting with family & friends, (especially the grandchildren), playing bridge, music, traveling, crafts, sewing, gardening, and reading. She loved living in the country, the Packers, pet animals, and sunsets. Maureen was always grateful for the support she received from the Cancer Support Group at Appleton Medical Center, especially Kim Maguire and many friends, but especially appreciated the thoughts and prayers of Pat and Gordon.
In addition to her husband Leroy, she is survived by a son: Barry (Lori) Adamski of Appleton; a daughter: Marcy (Eric) Helms of Menasha; six grandchildren: Ryan, Brianna, Gabrielle, Savannah, Sierra, and Gavin; a sister: Darlene (Joseph) Novitzke of Minocqua, Wisconsin; a brother: Gerald (Luella) Straub of Wausau. She is further survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Florence Luzer of Chicago; Felix Podhajski of Chicago; Genevieve Kurzejka of Chicago; Philip (Marian) Adamski of Wausau; Agnes Adamski of Edgar, Wisconsin; Alvina (Donald) Weber of Stratford, Wisconsin, and Edward Adamski of Rothschild, Wisconsin; as well as forty-four nieces and nephews. Maureen was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Theresa (Henry) Nielsen, Alex (Julia) Adamski, John (Martha) Adamski, George Luzer, Leona Adamski, Lucy Podhajski, Edward Kurzejka, Felix Adamski, Lamar Winistorfer, and Agnes Adamski.
The funeral liturgy for Maureen will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, April 17, 2006 at ST. EDWARD CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mackville, with Fr. Norm Krutzik officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. Interment will follow in St. Edward’s Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to either the University of Wisconsin Foundation Comprehensive Cancer Center or Community Hospice Foundation.
