Matthew N. "Matt" Schmit

SCHMIT, MATTHEW N.

Matthew Schmit, of Appleton, age 38, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on October 16, 1969 in Milwaukee, the son of George and Kathryn (Zieroth) Schmit. Matt graduated from Appleton West High School in 1987 and continued his love of swimming over the years. Matt enjoyed trains, disc golf, watching movies, hunting and most of all Nascar racing.

He is survived by his parents: George and Kathy Schmit, Appleton; sister: Beth (Pete) Allen, Daphne, Alabama; nephews: Gabe and Sammy Allen; aunt: Karen (Frances) Drys, Peshtigo; uncle: Steve (Elaine) Zieroth, Mancos, Colorado; his fiancée and her children: Darla Welhouse, Jim and Clara of Green Bay. Matt is further survived by his faithful companion, Lucky Dog and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Norman and Violet Zieroth, Mathias Schmit and Edith (Lon) Fuehrer and an uncle and aunt, John (Bonnie) Schmit.

The memorial service for Matt will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 29, 2008 at OUR SAVIOUR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3009 N. Meade Street with Rev. Bruce Pangborn officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church are appreciated.
