Mary Bambery passed away peacefully at St. Paul Home on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at the age of 95. She was born in Kaukauna on January 29, 1912, daughter of the late Peter and Emma (Green) Renn. Mary wed James Bambery on April 21, 1944 in Kaukauna; he preceded her in death in 1990. Mary attended Lawrence College, worked for the Kaukauna Hotel, the newspaper, and for the Kaukauna School District for many years. She taught knitting and sewing classes and was an accomplished clothing seamstress. Mary was also a life long member of Holy Cross Parish, and was active in her community. Her great sense of humor was a source of joy for those who knew her.
She will be missed by her three daughters: Kathryn (Glenn) Smith of Oklahoma City, Jane Bambery Sexton of New London, and Margaret Bambery Hickman of Prescott, Arizona; six grandchildren: Jenny Jolin Merritt, Sam Jolin, David and Andrew Sexton, Ian and Leah Hickman, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-daughter Joann (Clyde) Jenkins of Appleton, and by her sister Gertrude Cross Hansen of Shelton, Washington. Mary is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
A memorial service for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday morning from 10:30 AM until the hour of the mass. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial funds be directed to 1000 Islands Environmental Center.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation and thanks to the nursing staff of Poppy Path at St. Paul Home for their loving and compassionate care of Mary. Thanks also to Mary’s special friend, Jane Giordana.
