Parker, Mary R.
Mary Gaffney
Appleton
On Monday, January 6, 2003 Mary made her journey to heaven with her four daughters and their families at her side. She was greeted in heaven by her mother Lovie and father Addison and her brothers and sister. Mary was born on February 19, 1922 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. Her mother passed away when she was an infant and she was raised by loving aunts and uncles in Kentucky. During WW II Mary supported her country by working at Boeing Aircraft, Seattle Washington. She had many wonderful stories to tell her daughters. She moved to the Fox Valley area in 1946 where her daughters were born and raised. In the 1960’s, Mary proudly worked for Outagamie County Social Services, retiring in 1984.
Mary loved to garden, especially growing tomatoes, did many crafts, and crocheted the best mini Christmas stockings. She loved being in the sunshine. Her grandchildren were the love of her life and over the years she spent many special times with each of them. Although she had Alzheimer’s, seeing her great grandchildren always put a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eye.
Mary is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her four daughters Mary and Tom Bongers, Sr. of Hortonville and their children Tom and Trish Bongers of Appleton, Michael Bongers of Madison, Amy and Andy Gaerthofner of Neenah, and Nic Bongers of Appleton; Cindy Puphal of Appleton, and her daughters Cathy and Bob Springer of Kaukauna, Shellie Hauser of Appleton, Jaime Puphal and her friend Dustin Hartzheim of Appleton; Linda and Roy Haack of Kimberly, and their children Melinda Vande Hey of Kimberly, and Roy and Connie Haack II of Kimberly; Anne Thomson of Menasha and her children Jennifer and Brian Buss of Hawaii, and James Thomson of Appleton. She is further survived by her thirteen great grandchildren, Tara and Holly Carew, Christopher and Tyler Hauser, Jesse Springer, and Cameron Fieblekorn, Olivia Hauser, Anthony Hartzheim, Amanda and Ricky Vande Hey, Cody and Amber Haack, Paris Buss, and other family in Kentucky.
A memorial service in celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2003 at 7:00 PM at the Jansen-Fargo Funeral Home with Deacon Pete Reinl officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:30 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
Mary’s family would like to thank Darboy Living Center owners and staff and St. Elizabeth Hospital for the loving care they gave their mother.
