Age 86, died Thursday, January 9, 2003 at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center in Menasha, Wisconsin. Mary was born on March 22, 1916, in Lily, South Dakota, the daughter of the late Irl and Edna (Matthews) Grimes. She married Quentin E. Towles on October 23, 1933 in Lily, South Dakota. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1993. Mary worked as a waitress and a shoe sales person in Austin, Minnesota before retiring in 1975. She enjoyed card playing, camping, traveling, crocheting, crewel, and reading.
Mary is survived by her son, Roger Towles of Castro Valley, California; three daughters: Marsha (Terry) Harbin of Racine, Wisconsin, Barbara (Clay) Citrano of Berkley, California, and Patricia (Bob) Sanderson of Appleton, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren: Loni, Leann, Eddie, Denice, Kelli, Michael, Sara, Jason, Damon, Jeffrey, and Christopher; 11 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; two brothers: Bill (Bethel) Grimes of St. Paul, Minnesota and Wayne (Sue) Grimes of Melbourne, Florida; and a sister, Lois (Cliff) Lee of Rockledge, Florida.
The funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 East Fremont Street, Appleton, with Fr. Norman Krutzik Officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Room until the time of the service. Burial will be in Austin, Minnesota.
The family would like to give special thanks to Kim Tomko, all the staff at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center, and Dr. Ron Schreiber and his office staff for their kind, loving care and support.
