Mary Jo Lutz, 83, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, due to complications while in emergency surgery. She was born on June 30, 1940, in Appleton, the eldest child of Norbert and Jane McDonald. Mary Jo graduated from Appleton West High School where she met and married David Lutz and started a family.
Mary Jo was content being a stay-at-home mom but worked at several part-time jobs through the years including Hardees, Jean Nicholes, Harvest Bread, and Menards. Mary Jo found joy in producing artwork for her church and excelled at sewing and interior decorating. Mary Jo was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking until her later years, but tending to her many beautiful flower gardens and house plants may have been her most cherished past time.
Mary Jo was selfless and always found ways to help others even when she had little to give. She will be remembered for entertaining and feeding family and friends at any time and for every holiday. More than anything she loved being a mother and grandmother to anyone who needed one.
Mary Jo is survived by her two daughters: Terri Wierichs and Diane (Ron) Wilquet; grandchildren: Heather (Ron) Bearce and Nichole (Allen) Meser; great grandchild: Britnee Bearce, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents: Norbert and Jane McDonald; sisters: Bette Running and Barbara Melzer; brother: Robert McDonald; sons: Scott Lutz and James Lutz; son in law: Thomas Wierichs; and Ex-husband: David Lutz.
A memorial service will be held on May 9, 2024, at 4:00pm, at Wichmann Funeral Home. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 3:00pm until the service begins.
Mary Jo’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her special friend Alan Hankemeier for his years of devotion and care.
