Lou P. Van Gompel
Mary Lou ‚ÄúLou‚Äù Van Gompel died peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2001, surrounded by her family, after a three-year struggle with cancer. She was born on August 17, 1928 in Kimberly, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Sophie (Gunschevich) Lemmers. Lou had a fondness and courage for trying new things in life. After learning to drive when she was in her 40s, she took up a hobby that would ultimately form a life long love–golfing! When she semi-retired in 1995, Lou was finally able to realize her heart‚Äôs desire–daily jaunts to Countryside Golf Club in Kaukauna, where she was a long-time member. She is survived by her sister, Claire (Robert) Killian of Sylacauga, Alabama; her brother, Dean (Barb) Lemmers of San Antonio, Texas; her six children, Amy Wall; Peter Van Gompel; Joel Van Gompel; JoAnn (Steve) Hamilton, all of Angola, Indiana; Beth (Chad) Schmidt of Cohasset, Massachusetts; Meg Van Gompel of Madison, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grand children. Lou is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved twin sister, Marion ‚ÄúUn‚Äù Ristau, and her brothers James Lemmers and Frank Lemmers. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 East Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Fr. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made in Lou‚Äôs name to St. Paul‚Äôs Catholic Church. Lou wished to express her deepest love and appreciation to her dear friend and brother-in-law, Richard ‚ÄúDarky‚Äù Ristau, and treasured neighbor, Carol Van Eperen, for their years of support and friendship.
