Mary L. Hawkinson

July 25, 1914 — September 16, 2008

Mary L. Hawkinson, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. Mary was born in Appleton on July 25, 1914, daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Berringer) Zelie. She married Charles J. Hawkinson on February 14, 1953, in Tucson, Arizona; he preceded her in death on August 12, 1989. Mary enjoyed traveling as well as golf and socializing at Butte des Morts Country Club. Mary will be remembered as a dedicated daughter who cared for her aging parents, and for being a loving wife who took such good care of Chuck.

Survivors include her sister-in-law Jane Zelie of Boulder, Colorado; three loving nephews: Craig (Jeana) Zelie of Yuba City, California and their children Jana Lynn and Mika Leigh; Drs. Stephen (Karen) Zelie of Golden, Colorado and their children Joel and Clare Elizabeth; and Kenneth (Simme) Zelie of Boulder, Colorado and their children Alexandra and Nicholas.

Memorial services for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 Superior Street. The Reverend Kurt Kovanen will officiate. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund in Mary's name is being established to benefit the American Cancer Society.
