Mary Jane “Janie” Klapper passed away on September 6, 2014, peacefully in her home. She was born on February 19, 1933, in Appleton, WI where she remained a lifelong resident. She married Donald Klapper on June 16, 1951, and enjoyed many happy years together until his passing in 1996. Together they raised four children. She was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Janie enjoyed spending time with friends and sharing her humor with others. She liked the excitement of participating in the Powder Puff Derbies at Apple Creek Speedway. She was an avid league bowler. She also loved going up to their cabin in Pickerel to snowmobile, play cards, and spend time at the lake together with family and friends. She traveled with friends to Nashville and went on many casino bus trips. She also looked forward to her weekly card games with her friends at Brandy's and the Camelot.
She is survived by two sons: Randy (Jill) Klapper of Kewaskum, Wisconsin and Rick Klapper of Pickerel, Wisconsin; and son-in-law, Tom Ermers. She is further survived by one sister, Patricia Sturm of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Klapper; her parents, Hugo and Cecilia Sturm; her daughter, Cindy (Ermers); a son, James Klapper; her brothers, Harold, Leonard, and Donald Sturm; and her sister, Lucella “Lu” Sturm.
Janie will be missed greatly by her children, family, and friends, but she is now at peace with her husband and two of her children.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior Street, Appleton. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
