Age 69, passed away at Cherry Meadows Hospice on Friday, May 19, 2006. She was born in Daleville, Alabama on December 26, 1936 the daughter of the late Lester and Alvie Lee (Nichols) Thompson. She married her husband of 53 years, Melvin Vanderlinden, in Daleville on October 11, 1952. Mary was employed for 25 years at J.C. Penney's as a sales associate. She loved to play bingo, 31, and penny slots. She loved to cook, watch cooking shows, and crocheting. She will be remembered by her family for being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and her famous phrase, "Honey, give me some sugar." "We were blessed to have a mother like you!"
Mary is survived by her husband, Mel; children: Debbie (Bob) Sokel, Micki (Will) Hoerning, Michael (Jerri) Vanderlinden, Shari (Bill) Block, T.C. (Michael) Kilbane, Sue (Tom) Deuster and James (Shelly) Vanderlinden; grandchildren: Tony, Sheila (Joe), Dennis (Lisa), Stacy, Kristy, Kassie (Jake), Monique, Jacob, Avery, Levi, Holly and Brandon; great-grandchildren: Emma, Paige and Mallory; and sisters: Virginia "Ninny", Eva Nell, Betty Sue and Helen. She is preceded in death by her parents, great-grandson; Andrew Novy; sister; Eva Nell Hines; and her father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Evelyn (Gerard) Vanderlinden
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont St. Appleton, with Fr. Robert Karuhn officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park at the Singing Tower.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Franciscan Care Center and the staff at Cherry Meadows for their wonderful and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, masses in Mary's name would be appreciated.
