Mary Jane Allerton, 97, passed away on December 2, 2023, in Freedom, WI. She lived a remarkable life filled with love, joy, and countless cherished memories. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary Jane's journey began on New Years Eve 1925 in the township of Ladoga in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin where she grew up and attended Brandon High School. It was during these formative years that she first developed a deep love for the land and all its creatures. Mary Jane's proudest accomplishments were intertwined with meaningful connections she forged throughout her life. In a fateful encounter at a drug store in Fond du Lac, she met the love of her life, William Maxine Allerton. Their union was marked by unwavering devotion and a beautiful partnership until his passing in 1965.
She had a truly diverse range of interests and hobbies that reflected her deep appreciation for the world around her. A skilled and talented gardener, she found solace and joy in nurturing beautiful flowers, especially gladioli and roses. Mary brought beauty into the world through the art form of rosemaling. Her paintings were breathtaking and showcased her immense talent and creativity. She was also a voracious reader, traveling to new worlds and embarking on countless adventures with every page she turned.
One of Mary Jane's greatest passions was golfing at Winagamie and Oneida Golf Clubs. It was there that she would greet Vince Lombardi and Fuzzy Thurston with warm smiles as they crossed paths during their golf outings. Additionally, she delighted in showing American Saddlebred horses at Brockman Stables, where she shared her passion for these majestic creatures with others. She was a proud member of Homemakers for many years, dedicating her time to community activities that uplifted those around her while also being an active member in several church committees, belonging to a quilting club that made beautiful gifts for others.
Mary Jane Allerton is survived by her dear son Michael (Carol) Allerton, beloved sister Pauline Brown and multiple nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Helena (Ver Hey) Wallendal and siblings Elmer (Pauline) Wallendal, Agnes (Ted) Cramlet, Jim (Evelyn) Wallendal, Peter (Claire) Wallendal, Ruth (Bruno) Schrade and Ed Brown. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to bring comfort and joy to all who were blessed to know her.
