Age 83, died unexpectedly at his home, Sunday morning, March 11, 2001. He was born December 19, 1917, to the late Henry and Maria (Baumann) Van Stippen, in Kaukauna and had been an Appleton resident for over 50 years. Martin served with the U. S. Army during WW II and had been employed by United Grocers for 35 years, retiring in 1979 as warehouse supervisor. Martin played baseball until the age of 42 and enjoyed hockey, softball, boxing and in his later years golf. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Teamsters Union.

Survivors include his wife, Marie B. (Smith) Van Stippen, to whom he had been married for 59 years; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Larry Hunt, San Antonio, TX; Ann and Roger Licht, Kenosha; Susan and Eugene Literski, Pewaukee; a son and daughter-in-law, Martin P. and Tammy Van Stippen, Jr, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Trevor (Jodi) Janz, Aaron Literski, Tiffany Licht, Marty Licht and his fiancée, Candice Francis, Bryan, Tara and Alex Van Stippen; two great grandchildren Eliott and Madeline Janz; a sister, Cornelia “Kate” Meyer, Appleton. He was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Abigail Janz, five brothers, Henry “Heine” Van Stippen, Rudolph “Babe” Van Stippen, Joseph Van Stippen, Peter Van Stippen and John Van Stippen, and two sisters, Anne Van Stippen and Minnie Zak.

The funeral liturgy for Martin will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 15, 2001, at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Morrison Street, with Father Daniel C. Gilsdorf officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am Thursday, until the time of the mass. A memorial fund is being established.
