Age 77, passed away at Colony Oaks Care Center on Thursday, November 29, 2001. He was born to the late Marinus and Petronella (Williams) Van Beek on November 27, 1924 in Kimberly. Martin proudly served in the United States Navy in World War II and in the Army during the Korean War. While serving in the Korean War he met his first wife, Kumiko (Kay) Inaba, who preceded him in death in 1984. On March 18, 1989, he married Salle Casler in Las Vegas. Martin was involved with the American Legion Post 60 and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Many proud years were spent working at Kimberly Clark (Stora Enzo). He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Green Bay Packers.
Martin is survived by his wife Salle of Kimberly; 2 sons, Benjamin (Terry) Van Beek of Appleton and Steven (Lisa) Van Beek of Kimberly; 1 granddaughter, Lindsay Van Beek of Eau Claire; 2 stepdaughters, Robin (Dennis) Cecil of Tennessee and Kim (Greg) Hanks of Darboy; 1 stepson, Mark (Carol) Casler of Neenah; 3 step-grandchildren, Benjamin Hanks (who currently serves in the Navy), Taylor Hanks of Darboy, and Robert Bell of Tennessee; 2 sisters, Frances Kerkhof of California and Pauline Pleier of Kimberly; 2 brothers, Peter Van Beek of Appleton and Richard (Gloria) Van Beek of Georgia. He is also survived by many neices, nephews and Friends. Martin is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Benjamin and John Van Beek; and 1 sister, Mary Ann Gorman.
The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2001 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Fr. David Pleier officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, December 2, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Military Honors will be conducted by the William Verhagen Post 60 of the American Legion. The family has established a memorial fund for Parkinson Disease research.
