Marlene V. Driessen

September 8, 1936 — July 31, 2003

Age 66, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, July 31, 2003. She was born September 8, 1936 in Appleton, daughter of the late Adrian Meidam and Leora Meidam of Kaukauna. She was a graduate of St. John’s High School in 1954 and also graduated from the Outagamie County Teachers’ College. On May 8, 1957, she married Lee Driessen at St. John’s Catholic Church in Little Chute. Marlene taught school at Sacred Heart School in Sherwood as well as at Holy Angels School in Darboy. Lee and Marlene also operated the Lunchtime Café in downtown Appleton for several years. In 1977, the couple traveled to Nicaragua to bring home their adopted son, Francisco. He was the light of her life and brought her great joy. Marlene spent a great deal of time working on her family history, and made books for all of her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Survivors include her husband: Lee Driessen of Kaukauna; a son: Francisco “Chico” Driessen of Milwaukee; her mother: Leora Meidam of Kaukauna; her brothers and sisters: Ron (Helen) Meidam, Jean (Paul) Lamers, and Nancy Lappen, all of Little Chute; Rod Meidam of Green Bay, and Joyce (Ray) Gerow of Kaukauna; four sisters-in-law: Carol Skinkis of Milwaukee, Ruth Locy of Little Chute, Isabelle (Julius) Pritzel of Appleton, and Theresa Driessen of Kimberly; a brother-in-law: Jim Driessen of Little Chute, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Adrian Meidam, by Lee’s parents George and Rose Driessen, brothers-in-law Chester Skinkis, Dan Lappen, Gene Driessen, Dick Driessen, Dave Locy, and by a sister-in-law, Mona Driessen.

Funeral services for Marlene will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 4, 2003 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tim Albrecht officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 AM until the hour of the services.

Marlene was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She was always there when you needed anything, always offered a shoulder to cry on or an ear to bend, or a tasty dish to pass at a family event. She was a loving and generous person, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
