Age 66, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at St. Lukes South Shore Hospital, Cudahy. Marlene was born on March 29, 1938, in Appleton to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Hegel) Sachs. She married Jack Best on October 3, 1959, in Appleton. Marlene graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1960 with a Teaching Degree. For many years she was the owner and operator of Bests’ Hobbies in Appleton and Neenah. She was an avid bicyclist, enjoyed traveling, cooking and mentoring children. Survivors include her husband of 44 years years, Jack; her son, Steven (Christi) Best, Appleton; her daughters, Lisa (Michael) Lotzer, Mosinee; Lori Best, Milwaukee; and Kari (Kent) Lindquist, Merton; her grandchildren, Rob and Mike Stankus, Kristin Best, Brad Best, Jared and Connor Lindquist; her brothers and sisters, Maria (Edwin) Jaloszynski, Appleton; Karl (Marlene) Sachs, Black Creek; Jean (Allen) VanDaalwyk, Oconomowoc; Paul (Joan) Sachs, Neenah; Rita (Thomas) Engel, Sheboygan, Bernice (Gerald) Kohl, Appleton and Helen Sachs, Appleton. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2004, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 East Fremont Street, Appleton, with Fr. Robert Karuhn officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name to benefit the American Lung Association. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at St. Lukes South Shore Hospital for their loving care.
