Markie (Blazek) Burby, 92, entered eternal life on Friday, January 17, 2025 at ThedaCare hospital in Appleton WI.
Markie was born at home near Rice Lake, WI, the youngest of five children, and the last surviving sibling. She spent her childhood in Nichols and graduated from Seymour High School in 1951.
She lived most of her life in Kenosha, WI. On April 4, 1959, she married Ken Burby, who preceded her death in 2010. In 1988 they moved to Green Bay. After Ken’s passing, Markie moved to Appleton then to Kaukauna in 2016.
Markie worked for many years at First National Bank in Kenosha. After moving to Green Bay, she worked at Sav-Half Greeting Cards. After moving to Appleton, she joined the Widows of Prayer ministry, where she made several good friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Mark) Peters and Nan (Mike) Erdahl; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Jennifer Anderson-Pells (Andre Pells) and their children McCullen, Ireland, and Rowan; Dale (Jenny) Peters and their children Ian, Josie, and Maddie; Stephen (Tracy) Peters and their children Emryn, Roland, Eowyn, and Ari; Gregory and Kyle Erdahl.
She is preceded in death by her parents William and Marie Blazek, husband Ken, a daughter Patricia Lynn, a great-granddaughter Riven, and her siblings and their spouses: Marie (Fred) Gerber, John “Jack” (Rose) Blazek, Beth (Gene) Olsen and Terry (Jerry) Smith. Also preceding her were Ken’s parents, four siblings and their spouses.
There will be a memorial service on January 31, 2025, at St. Pius Catholic Church 500 W Marquette St, Appleton WI 54911. Visitation will be from 930 – 1130 with mass starting at 1130.
We would like to thank the staff at Saint Paul Elder Services, as well as the doctors, nurses, and other staff at ThedaCare hospital in Appleton. We would also like to thank her many friends who called, visited, and did so many things for Mom.
