Mark E. Sauter, age 67 of Shorewood, WI passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2022. Mark was the third of the six children born on November 14, 1954, to Arthur and Audrey (Funk) Sauter in Appleton, WI. He attended Appleton East High School, graduating in 1973 and soon after moved to Milwaukee to pursue studies in engineering. Upon completion of his studies, he began a lifelong career in plastic manufacturing and molding, culminating in 41 years working at Tulip Corporation in Milwaukee.
Mark was passionate about cycling, and though he never owned a vehicle, he always had wonderful bikes that served as his transportation. He truly enjoyed spending time on the biking trails all around Wisconsin, and loved the feeling of being outdoors.
When he returned to Appleton, he loved to spend time in the backyard at Mom’s place, where they would just sit on the homemade picnic tables around the fire pit. The picnic tables always offered some sibling rivalry in that he and brother John “competed” with repairing “each other’s” seats and tables.
Mark was an avid reader, and one need only look at his collection (stacked two deep on most shelves) to find nearly any genre of reading material. Series books and stories were especially meaningful to him-and he had hundreds of collections of all varieties. He loved to collect coins and had a collection that was substantial. He started collecting coins when he received the coin collection started by Grandpa Funk.
Mark is survived by his mother Audrey, Siblings: Linda (Paul) Cooke, Melissa Sauter, Geralyn (Dan) Sauter, John (Elena) Sauter, Jaime (Kurt) Sauter; nieces: Stephanie, Jacquelyne, Mackenzie and grand-niece, Xyriel. He is further survived by good friends and other family. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur and both his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A memorial service for Mark will be held on Thursday November 10 at 3:00pm at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N Superior Street, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 2:00pm until the start of the service. He will be laid to rest at a later date.
