Mark J. Nowak
Appleton

Age 71, died unexpectedly at his home, on Tuesday, January 21, 2003. Mark was born in Appleton on April 27, 1931, son of the late Rudolph and Kathryn (Bruehl) Nowak. He lived his entire life in Appleton. In May, 1952, Mark married Jean Tornow, and they enjoyed 33 years of marriage until she preceded him in death in 1985. On June 21, 1991, Mark married Donna Carpenter, who became a loving wife and grandmother.

He proudly served his country during the Korean War. Mark retired from Kimberly-Clark in 1990, following 42 years of service. He enjoyed his cottage, riding around on his pontoon boat, and spending time with all of his grandchildren. Mark also enjoyed painting miniature houses for his Christmas village, and was very proud of the recent article in the newspaper. He felt so privileged to have made a Cursillo. This was one of the highlights of his life.

Mark is survived by his wife, Donna; his children, Steve (Becky); Linda (Scott) Mogensen; grandchildren, Sarah, David (Krystal) Nowak; Stefanie, Melissa Mogensen; step-children, Mary Ann Herlitzke; Bob, John Carpenter; step-grandchildren, Beth, Kevin, Kyle Herlitzke; Kate, Tim, Samuel Carpenter; and his brother, Larry (Barbara) Nowak. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his brother and sister.

The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, January 24, 2003, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, Appleton. The interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. “I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down on the waves. Of happy times and laughing times, and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun. Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.”
