Marjorie L. Gustman

April 17, 1926 — February 16, 2006

Marjorie died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Thursday, February 16, 2006. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Edward and Margaret (Green) Schulze on April 17, 1926. She graduated from Oak Park-River Forest High School in 1944, and from Lawrence University with a BA in English Literature in 1948.

Marge loved to read, and enjoyed both the theatre and listening to good music. She so enjoyed keeping busy as a dedicated volunteer. She was one of the very first volunteers at the 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna, and served on their “Friends” board for over twenty years. Marge also loved her days of volunteering in the school library at Holy Cross Grade School in Kaukauna, and leading both Brownie and Girl Scout troops. She served as an aide in the St. Paul Home Occupational Therapy Department and was a volunteer with Kaukauna Meals-on-Wheels.

Marge resided in Appleton for the past ten years, and was a dedicated member of many organizations – most especially, “Over the Teacups” and Book Club. She enjoyed listening to Vance and Dick tell of their trout fishing adventures, as well as loving every minute of watching her favorite sports teams, the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. She was also an avid fan of her granddaughters’ softball and soccer teams.

Marge is survived by two daughters: Jane (Vance) Herring and Peggy (Dick) Keough; and two granddaughters: Alison and Melanie Herring. Also surviving Marge are her brothers-in-law: Tom (Suzy) Gustman, David (Mary) Gustman and their families, and her lifelong friends: Don and Betty Jabas, and Lois Lee. She is also survived by her cousins and their families: Carol Jean (William) Bolgrien of Beloit, Wisconsin; Peter Farrow of Chicago, Illinois; and Robert Hines of McHenry, Illinois. Preceding Marge in death were her cousins, Patricia Farrow and Virginia Hines, and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Gustman.

A memorial funeral liturgy for Marge will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Marty Fox officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Marjorie Schulze Gustman Scholarship Fund at Lawrence University, or to the Xavier High School Educational Fund.
