Age 90, passed away Monday, August 28, 2006, at Franciscan Care Center.
Marie was born April 23, 1916, in Appleton, the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Riehl) McHugh. She was united in marriage to Emmett F. Arnold on September 19, 1934, and he preceded her in death April 28, 1977. Marie was a long-time member of the congregation of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her children, Roger (Patti) Arnold, Winneconne, and Shirley (Don) Schiessl, Kaukauna, her daughter-in-law, Susan (Del) Arnold-LaMarche, Appleton; her son-in-law, Larry Bell, Appleton; her grandchildren, Debbie (Larry) Vorpahl, Diane (Bob) Halverson, Robert (Sandy) Bell, David (Laura) Arnold, Gary Arnold, Connie (Joel) Wilz, Dawn (Dale) Dorschner, Steven (Pam) Arnold, Daniel Arnold, Rachel (Mark) Porter, and Bryon (Dana) Schiessl; she is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, and four sisters, Sally Moede, Clara Marcks, and Betty Williams, all of Appleton, and Rose (John) Samson, Shiocton.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett; her son, Wayne Arnold, her daughter, Eunice Bell, her grandson, Terry Birkholz, her sister, Hazel (George) Voight, and her brother, Daniel “Donny” Kruse.
Funeral services for Marie will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at ST. MATTHEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 129 South Mason Street, Appleton, with Revs. Jeffrey Verbeke and Paul T. Schuler officiating. Interment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services directly at the church. A memorial fund in Marie’s name is being established.
We would like to thank the staff of Franciscan Care, Unit 4, and the Rehab area for the compassion shown to Marie and her family during her stay there. A special thank you to Paula for keeping her involved in activities, Joanne for making sure her needs were met, Rose for working with her in rehab during her many recoveries, (she always recognized you, Rose!), nurse Jenny for being so honest and comforting, Chaplain Jane for praying with us, and Kim Nabbefeld for helping Aunt Marie with everything. We would also like to thank all the ladies at Marie’s dining table for their concern.
An extra special thank you to her roommate, Gert Janssen, and her daughter, Sue Janssen. Sue, you are a special lady, one of God’s angels on earth. You were always there for Marie and her family in our time of need. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
