Vanden Boogaard, Marian Jean
Marian Jean (Melendy) Vanden Boogaard, age 89, of Kimberly, died and rose to eternal life on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. She was born March 1, 1919, to the late John and Jenny (Freeborn) Melendy in Green Bay. Marian along with spending her entire life caring, sharing and raising her family, was employed by Appleton Coated Papers, Combined Locks, for 22 years, until her retirement in 1981. Marian enjoyed spending her leisure time on Shawano Lake and then at Clover Leaf Lakes. Marian was an avid music lover and spent many days and nights singing songs, with her family, grandchildren and great grand children. Marian graduated from Shawano High School in 1936. She married her husband of 65 years, Mathias J. Vanden Boogaard on April 17, 1943, in San Francisco, CA. Marian was very involved with and was a Past President of William Verhagen American Legion Auxiliary Post # 60 of Kimberly, and was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and choir.
She is survived by her husband, Matt; five children, John (Pat) Vanden Boogaard, DePere, WI; Kathy (and the late Dick) Hurst, Cloquet, MN; Dick (Mary Lou) Vanden Boogaard, Kimberly, WI; Kris (and the late Bill) Gerhardt, Appleton, WI; Dave (Kathy) Vanden Boogaard, Little Chute, WI; 13 grandchildren, JP Vanden Boogaard, Amy (Geoff) Stenson, Chris (Becky) Hurst, Paula (Scott) Reaves, Shelly (Shawn) Manisto, Katie (Graig) Stevens, Tracy and (Jim) Schommer, Brad Vanden Boogaard, Polly Vanden Boogaard, Laura Vanden Boogaard, Dawn Marwitz, Ross Vanden Boogaard, Ben Vanden Boogaard; 11 great grandchildren, Kate and Zachary Stenson, Cole and Luke Hurst, Kyle, Jake and Derek Manisto, Reece and Phin Schommer, Danielle and Carly Marwitz. Marian is further survived by her in-laws, Paul (Evelyn) Vanden Boogaard, Appleton; Elmer Vanden Boogaard, Appleton; Maxine Wichman, Kimberly; Mary Adel (Edward) Prellwitz, Savannah, GA; Dorothy Vanden Boogaard, Appleton. She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Dick Hurst and Bill Gerhardt, father and mother John and Jenny Melendy; three sisters Hattie (Hilbert) Baster, Ethel “Sis” ( Roy Rezek, John Johnson), Ruth (Melendy) Abel; Esther and Norb Schwab, Bernard (Audrey) Vanden Boogaard, Opal Vanden Boogaard, Otto Wichman, Bob Vanden Boogaard, Vin (Esther) Vanden Boogaard. The funeral Liturgy for Marian will be held at 12:00pm, March 31, 2008, at Holy Spirit Parish, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, WI, with Father David Beaudry officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 pm and at the church on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of mass. There will be an William Verhagen American Legion Auxiliary Unit #60 visitation at 7:00 pm and a Parish Prayer and Scripture Service at 7:15 pm, Sunday. A memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to thank all of our mothers/wife care givers over the last 5 years, especially the last couple weeks of her life, for their love and care.
