Margaret Louise Schmitzer, age 98, passed away peacefully Friday, November 13, 2020 at Mathews of Irish Road Assisted Living. Louise lived a beautiful long life and will surely be greeted with open arms in heaven. She was born November 8, 1922 in East St Louis, MO to the late Emmett and Lillie (Finley) Eversmeyer. She married the love of her life Donald J. Schmitzer while he was serving our county and stationed in Scotts Field, IL on February 5, 1942. After completing his service, Don and Louise moved to Neenah, where they lived their lives to the fullest and raised their family
Louise enjoyed lake life on Lake Winnebago and building close friendships with her neighbors. She would often say of the lake: “There’s so much to see and something different every day.” Louise loved playing card games like Bridge and Sheepshead with her lady friends. She also enjoyed a martini now and then, or a cold beer while relaxing by the water with family, friends, and neighbors. When winter arrived, she loved snowmobiling around Lake Winnebago and going up north to the White Lake area. She continued to drive her snowmobile into her early 80’s with her dearest friend.
Louise and Don were members of the Wisconsin State Outboard Association Boat Racing Club and traveled across several states for the love of racing, building forever friendships, and meeting new racers. Louise volunteered as a score keeper and organizer of events and loved watching her family and boat racing family race. Louise rarely missed a boat race due to her passion, dedication, and hard work ethic.
Louise worked at James River Corporation and retired from her work after many years of service. After retirement, she enjoyed reading books, and lots of them!!! Oh, how we couldn’t keep her supplied with enough books. She was also an avid sports enthusiast and spent much of her time watching baseball and football. Badgers, Brewers and the Packers were her favorite of course. Her door was always open to friends and family and she had such a contagious smile that lit up the room.
She is survived by her sons; Donald (Joe) J. Schmitzer Jr., of Neenah, David J. (Mary) Schmitzer of Pelican Lake. Grandchildren; Lisa (Doug) Wilke of Big Stone City, SD. Patti (Brian) Vogt of Winchester. Great Grandchildren; McKayla Vogt and Fiancé (Craig Rieckmann) of Zittau and Hailey Wilke of La Valle, WI. A Brother-in-Law Alex Schmitzer Jr., Neenah. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, sister Hazel, husband Don and daughter-in-law Eileen Schmitzer.
The family would like to thank the staff at Matthews of Irish Road for the wonderful care and compassion given to Louise over the past nearly three years. She gave them many laughs with her funny demeanor and feisty way. We want to also thank Generations Hospice Team for their exceptional care the last few months.
There will be no service due to Corona virus, but a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date with the immediate family.
