Loving wife, mother, grandmother, age 73, died on Friday, September 13, 2002 at Cherry Meadows Hospice, following a courageous battle with cancer. Margaret was born on December 4, 1928 in the Town of Vandenbroek, daughter of the late John and Marie (Plesser) Stein. On November 27, 1952, Margaret married Carl Van Vreede, and they have enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage together. Margaret was a former employee at Valley Redi-Mix from 1946 – 1955, and at Shopko for 7 years. For a number of years, she was an active volunteer as a University of Michigan Extension 4-H leader; teaching sewing, knitting and crafts, and participating in local Fairs. Margaret also volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed reading in her spare time. Margaret is survived by her husband, Carl; her 5 children, Carla (Brad) Freeman; Jane Van Vreede; Bill (Tammy) Van Vreede; Larry (Stacey Foster and her children, Maureen and Renae) Van Vreede; Vicki (Jude) Hietpas; her brother, James Stein; 3 sisters, Jane Bauman; Frances Vander Linden; Marie Simon; 9 grandchildren, Eric and Marc Freeman; Jessica, Tony, Michael, Billy and Katelyn Van Vreede; and Becky and Mandi Hietpas; and her brother-in-law, Harvey (Lorraine) Van Vreede. Further survived by many nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold; Frank; and John; her sister, Bernice Weisnicht; 4 brothers-in-law, Norbert, Alois, Victor and Floyd; and her sister-in-law, Georgianna Weyers. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, with Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. The interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday, September 17 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Cherry Meadows Hospice, for their loving care of Margaret.
