MARGARET CLARA BARTZ
(nee SCHREIBER)
Margaret Clara Schreiber Bartz, 88, of Hayes and Appleton, Wis., died Wednesday, October 12, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 21, 1917, in Greenwood, WI, the firstborn of the five children of Otto W. and Meta Suemnicht Schreiber. She graduated from Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, WI, in 1935 and attended the Bellin College of Nursing in Green Bay. She married Roland Bartz on November 24, 1938 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hayes, Wis. She lived most of her life in Hayes, but loved to travel – Europe, Africa, and Korea as well as many trips in the United States, including Hawaii and Washington, D.C. Margaret Bartz was an enthusiastic participant in Wisconsin’s College Week for Women, the M&O College Days and many church and county homemaker activities. Her culinary specialty, German potato salad, was a staple at many potluck dinners. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Suring and Green Bay, retiring after more than 11 years.
Her parents, siblings, and two daughters – Barbara and Margot – predeceased her. She is survived by her husband Roland, daughters Emmy (Roger) Simmons, Betsy (Howard) Wiener, and Clare (Peter) Peitsch, and her son Jonathan (Terri) Bartz. She enjoyed her role as grandmother to Ben and Kaitlin Bartz of Appleton and to Christian, Caleb, Madelyn, and Marielle Peitsch of Waconia, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Hayes on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent for the repair and rehabilitation of the pipe organ at St. John Lutheran Church.
