Margaret Mayer passed away peacefully on May 9, 2018, she was 93 years loved. Margaret was born on June 16, 1924 into the happy William and Mildred Spreeman family in Suring, WI. On June 12, 1948, Margaret carried that joy into her own marriage to her everything, Levi Mayer of Appleton. Margaret and Levi were happily married for almost 60 years. Margaret was an amazing mother to Emmy and Allan. She was a special Nana to Renee and her entire extended family, especially Braden, the apple of her eye. Margaret adored her kitty Dixie and many pets throughout her lifetime.
Margaret’s smile and playful nature was infectious. For years, Margaret liked to crochet baby blankets, afghans and dish cloths for those she loved. She was a proud longtime volunteer at Appleton Medical Center. Margaret enjoyed telling stories about her childhood on the family farm and offered many the advice to “always keep your memories”. Those memories sustained her through her later years. Her faith also sustained her and she was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in the Town of Center.
Margaret was fortunate to live independently in her home until about 6 months ago. Thank you to Thedacare Hospice and Mary Weber for making this possible. Margaret spent her final months being lovingly nurtured by the caring staff at Brookdale Assisted Living in Appleton.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Emmy Mayer; daughter-in-law Dawn Barron, Maddie and Hailey, her granddaughter Renee (Mel) Wills, great-grandson Braden; three brothers: Verlyn (Beulah) Spreeman, Eugene (Della) Spreeman, and William Spreeman, Jr.; sister: Elaine Schmidt; her sweet kitty, Dixie; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Levi; son Allan; her parents; sisters: Althea Peters, Shirley Baeten, and Marcella Spreeman, Margaret's twin sister; sisters-in-law: Jean Spreeman, Elaine Spreeman, Sally Spreeman, and Marie Spreeman; brothers: Carlyle Spreeman, Earl Spreeman; brothers-in-law: Eugene Baeten, and John “Jack” Schmidt.
