“Muggs”
Margaret A. Guilfoyle, age 73, of Appleton, passed away on December 27, 2009, at Rennes Health Care Center after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Margaret was born on October 2, 1936, in Kaukauna, to the late Ben and Margaret (Coffey) Verhagen. She was a graduate of St. Mary School of Nursing in Madison in 1957 and as a Registered Nurse worked in almost every phase of nursing. Then, after 16 years serving with Visiting Nurses and Hospices, she retired in 1990. Margaret belonged to St. Pius X Catholic Church where she received much spiritual support. Survivors include her five loving children, Peggy (Bill) Spreeman and their sons, Matthew, Willie, Casey (Chelsea), and Shea; Peggy's twin sister, Patty Guilfoyle; Tim (Cindy) Guilfoyle and their sons Brendton Mack and Weston Guilfoyle; Jeanne (Bill) Shavlik-Bork, and their children Connor and Ryan Shavlik and Adam and Ashlee Bork; Tom Guilfoyle. She is further survived by her sister and brothers, Mary (John) O'Neil, Jack (Lorraine) Verhagen, Don (Kitty) Verhagen, and twins Dick (Karen) Verhagen and Bob (Marcia) Verhagen; and her sister-in-law, Nancy (Glen) Wintrode. Margaret leaves “forever friends” Marion Kobussen, Marilyn Coenen and especially close friend Carol Geenen. She was preceded in death by a brother Ben “Bud.” A Memorial Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2010, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Margaret and her family wish to thank all of the wonderful caregivers, pastoral counselors and staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, as well as Rennes Health Center for their loving care. They would also like to thank her physicians Dr. Yacoub, Dr. Avery, Dr. Mahindra and Dr. Dremel. A memorial has been established in her name to benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
