Age 78 of Appleton, died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack at an Easter Celebration surrounded by family and friends. Toots was born in Brillion on December 31, 1929 to the late John and Mary (Fischer) Geiger. On May 21, 1953, she was united in marriage to Edward “Pinkey” Penkala Jr. Toots was a good cook, she enjoyed daily crossword puzzles and listening to Polka music and Jerry Schneider. She also enjoyed her soap operas and weekly sign ins at “her favorite joints”. Survivors include her four sons and daughters-in-law:, James (Cindy) Penkala, Appleton; Richard (Carla) Penkala, St. Petersburg, Florida; Michael (Jackie) Penkala; Alan (Sheri) Penkala, both of Appleton. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Justin, Eric, David, Kim, Jenny, Heather, Chelsey, Danny and Ryan; two sisters, Dorothy Gliniecki, Kansas and Marge Vaughan, Sheboygan Falls; her twin brother, Edward (Darlene) Geiger, Sheboygan; her brother, Ralph (Ann) Geiger, Sherwood; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Penkala, Appleton; Richard (Dorothy) Penkala, Appleton; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Mary Ann Penkala, her son, John William Penkala, two brothers- in-law, Joseph Gliniecki, and Bruce Vaughan; a sister- in-law, Carol Penkala, and nephew David Penkala.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Morrison St. at Wisconsin Ave., Appleton, with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, with a prayer service at 7:30. There will also be visitation at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in her name.

The family would like to thank family friend, John Valentie, and the Appleton Police and Fire Departments for all of their efforts.
