Mabel H. Pickett-Hornbeck
Age 97
Of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. Mabel was born on January 12, 1906 in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from La Crosse State College and taught in the Appleton Public Schools. She married William Pickett in April of 1926. She has been an active member of First Congregational U.C.C. and a past President of Women’s Fellowship at church, past president of the Appleton Women’s club, Past Worthy Matron of the Fidelity Chapter 94 O.E.S, member of the Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary, worked as a Red Cross ‘Gray Lady’ at the Winnebago State Hospital for many years. She later married William Hornbeck in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Pickett and William Hornbeck; a son, William Pickett Jr.; daughter, Paula Ann; grandson, Scott Pickett; and a son-in-law, Gilman Stordock.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Stordock, Wausau, a daughter-in-law, Joan Pickett, La Crosse; a granddaughter, Julie (Mark) Blemberg, Appleton; five grandsons: James (Sheryl) Stordock, Appleton, Steven (Diane) Stordock, Syracuse, N.Y., Jeffrey (Connie) Stordock, Green Bay, Paul Pickett, LaCrosse, David (Debbie) Pickett, La Crosse; eight great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; Further survived by two step-daughters: Ruth (George) Hightdudis, Oshkosh and Neita (Brian) Mulherin, Augusta, Georgia and their families.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 2:00 PM at First Congregational United Church of Christ (724 East South River St.) with Rev. John T. McFadden officiating. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church.
The family would like to thank the Rennes staff for their outstanding and compassionate care of Mabel for the past five years.
