Age 80, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton after a short illness on Sunday, January 8, 2006. He was born in Appleton on May 18, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Loraine (Dunsirn) Kaufman. Lyle served in the United States Army during World War II. He fought in Normandy and Rhineland, earning three overseas medals for the European, African, and Middle East theaters, in addition to the European Victory Medal, a Bronze Medal and the Purple Heart. On April 19, 1947 he married Margaret McDaniel at St. Paul Catholic Church, Wrightstown. He was employed at Schaefer Dairy for 20 years as an office manager where he worked on the trucks during the weekends with his brothers. After Schaefer Dairy, he worked at Appleton Appliance for several years, also as an office manager. He later worked at U.S. Oil in inventory control. Lyle was involved in Holy Spirit Parish for 55 years and served in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2778, Appleton. Lyle was an avid gardener and a devout country and western fan. His Christmas candy will be remembered as his baking was very accomplished and legendary.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; children: Joe (Jane) Kaufman of Combined Locks, Bob (Lynn) Kaufman of Green Bay, and Bill (Mary Kay) Kaufman of Neenah; grandchildren: Paul, Ryan, John, Randy, Patrick, Lori, Ross, Carol, Julie, and Kathryn; great grandchildren: Claire Ann, Marie Jane, Anna Jo, Dominick Gordon, and Josi Lynn; brothers: Joseph (Vivian) Kaufman of Appleton and Charles (Lorraine) Kaufman of Appleton; sister, Margaret Seidling of Menasha; daughter-in-law, Cindy Kaufman-Specht; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Chris; and three brothers: Robert, Clarence and John.

The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at Holy Spirit Parish, 600 Kimberly Ave, Kimberly, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the liturgy. The Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Sniderville, with a veterans honor service conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2778, Appleton.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at the intensive care unit and the emergency room at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton.
