Lydia Powell, loving wife and mother, passed away at home In Appleton on Tuesday morning, October 21, 2014. Lydia was born in Grassland, Alberta, Canada on May 18, 1933, daughter of the late Kyzma and Kzana (Diatel) Poterucka. On September 10, 1051, she married Richard Powell in Vero Beach, Florida; he survives. Lydia worked most of her life as a nurses' aide, taking time off to raise her six children. Her most recent job was at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, Michigan. Lydia loved to have coffee and visit with friends, cook traditional Ukrainian dishes, and spend time with her husband and children.
She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-three years: Richard Powell of Appleton; six children: Jackie (Andy Ahl) Powell of Green Bay; Richard (Lynn Powell) Powell of Monee, Illinois; John (Marilyn Magee – Powell) Powell of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Jane (Scott) Vincent of Iron Mountain, Michigan; Chad Powell of Appleton; and Harry (Janine) Powell of Apple Valley, Minnesota. Her five dear grandchildren are Jason Powell, Richard (Jodie) Powell, Chad Powell, Rachel Vincent, and Scott Vincent. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren: Cassidy and Ashley; a brother: John (Corey) Poterucka of Edmonton, Alberta; and Richard's siblings: Claude (Phyllis) Powell of Hannibal, Missouri; Dan (Karen) Powell of LaCrosse; Tom Powell of LaCrescent, Minnesota; and Mary Ann (Dwayne) Becker of LaCrosse. Lydia was preceded in death by her sisters: Ann Windiuk, Vera (Jim) Shewchuk, Lynn (Steve) Pentyliuk, and Nancy (Dawson) Smith; her parents: and a brother-in-law: James Powell.
