Lucy G. Schandel (Woller) entered eternal life on Friday, March 7, 2025 at the age of 95. She was born on December 3, 1929 in Buffalo Lake, MN to Albert and Martha Woller. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake, MN. On December 23, 1947, she married Lorraine “Bud” Schandel and together, they raised 5 children.
Growing up, she worked on the family farm. After her marriage, she worked several jobs, including catering, preparing, and serving noon meals at the HA Todd American Legion Post 537 in Milwaukee. At this time, she was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Most notably, she worked for Briggs & Stratton (Strattec), retiring in 1995 after 30 years of dedicated service.
After being widowed at a young age, she raised her 5 children alone. Mom was always eager to share her life experiences, stories, and advice to us and anyone else that touched her life.
Mom’s love for cooking was shared by some of her children, but not all… lol. Mom made the best ever sliced roast beef and gravy and chicken dumpling soup, and no matter how many lessons were given, hers was always better!
Mom enjoyed the companionship of her cats, which she affectionately referred to as “her boys”, whenever someone asked if she lived alone. Mom also enjoyed listening to country-western and polka music, whether it was on TV, radio, or out with her group of friends, enjoying it live at different venues.
After her retirement in 1995, Mom moved to Neenah and was faithful in worshipping at Riverview Lutheran Church in Appleton, also forging friendships there over the past 30 years.
Lucy will be deeply missed by her children, Donna, Sandy (Mark), and Janis; her grandchildren, Scott, Michael, Jeanine, Shelly, Harold, Laura, Larae, Kerri, Kelli, Jonathan, Angela, Corey, T.J., Jessica, and Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Kenny, Becky, Ben, Jay, Joroni, Branden, Megan, Maleah, Zach, Dylan, Abby, Spencer, J.J., Parker, Brycen, Bailey, Lily, Hudson, Kenzli, Koltyn, Libby, and Tapun; her great-great-grandchildren, Jurell, Victoria, Jake, Athena, Kash, Lance, Kinsley, Tyler, Nora, Kooper, Triton, and Everleigh; her brother, Edwin; her sister-in-law, Carrie; special family members, Keith, Amy, and Sierra; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.
Lucy is preceded in death by her husband, Loraine “Bud”; her children, Tom and Cyndy; her great-grandson, Scott II; and her siblings, Lorraine, Betty, Shirley, and Albert.
A memorial visitation will be held for Lucy from 10-11 AM on Monday, March 24, 2025 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6802 West Forest Home Avenue, Greenfield, Wisconsin 53220 with a memorial service to follow at 11 AM. She will be laid to rest with Bud at Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations could be to Riverview Lutheran Church in Appleton (136 W. Seymour St, Appleton, WI 54915) or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cudahy (3515 E. Van Norman Ave, Cudahy, WI 53110).
Lucy’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Pastor Belter, Pastor Kolander, and Pastor Wagner, as well Dr. Kelly Mathes, the doctors, nurses, and other supportive staff at Theda Care at Home Palliative and Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Mom during her times of need.
