Age 87, of Appleton, the last surviving child of John and Katie Gruber, was born and raised in Stanley, Wis.
Ceil is survived by her husband of 67 years, William Harvey Hanson, and four of her five children; Sharon Wichman, Randy (Char) Hanson, Terri (Jeff) Miller, and Dave (Jill) Hanson, and lifelong family friend, Mendy Zussman. Also grieving the passing of Ceil are grandchildren, Debra Hanson, Rick Hanson, Jason (Stacy) Hanson, Bobbi (John) Hicken, Scott (Jill) Hanson, Jenni (John) Thurlow, Chad Miller, and Katie Miller; seven great grandchildren, and in-laws, Arlean and Ted Pack, Pat Hanson, and Inez Hanson.
Ceil was preceded in death by her son, William Duane Hanson and daughter-in-law, Jeanette, son-in-law, Tom Wichman, great grandchild, Eric Zeegers, and grandson, Dave Zeegers; also preceding Ceil in death were all of her siblings, Paul Gruber, Leo Gruber, Lawrence Gruber, Norma Folsom, Cecilia Gruber, Clarence Gruber, Raymond Gruber, George Gruber, Robert Gruber I, Robert Gruber II, Jack Gruber, Dorothy (Dee Dee) Gruber, and Marion Meyer.
Ceil worked at Zussman's Grocery until the time of her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed and celebrated family and welcomed all people as she would her own family.

The funeral mass for Ceil will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, with Father Larry Abler, OFM Cap. as celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wichmann Funeral Home, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:00. Visitation resumes at 9:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of mass at the church.
She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials in her name are being established by the family.

Ceil and her children would like to thank special nieces and nephews, Jan and Ray Sommers, Caroline (Jerry) Page, Bev and Al Meyer, and special friends, Herman Kinnie, Carol Fuerst (special caregiver), Affinity Hospice, the Home Instead care workers, and nurse Rachel.
