Lowell A. Holverson, age 87, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021. He was born February 8, 1934, to Marvin and Edith (Carpenter) Holverson and attended New London High School. He met the love of his life, Neita Nelson, as teenagers while attending the Luther League youth group at Grace Lutheran Church. In 1957, he and Neita were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester.
Lowell served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Europe during the Korean War. In the years that followed, he worked for the Wisconsin Electric Power company. After 37 years of service, he retired in 1994.The privilege of a recent Honor Flight for veterans was a memorable experience for him.
Lowell had many hobbies, including beekeeping, tending to his orchard, auto and small engine repair, woodworking, dog showing, gardening, home improvement, and watching his favorite sports teams. Growing up on the farm was deep in Lowell’s heart. He always looked at the world through the eyes of a farmer, growing all sorts of fruits and vegetables. Family, friends, and the school cafeteria all benefitted from his labor.
Lowell lived a long and full life with a strong, close family that made the many good times that much more enjoyable and the challenging times more bearable.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Neita Holverson of Appleton; four children: Greg Holverson of Kenosha, Nola (Tim) Endres of Madison, Todd Holverson of Appleton, and Dallas (Kelly) Holverson of Pensacola, Florida; four grandchildren: Laurin (Andy) Dodd of Fox Crossing and Alissa Endres, Deanna Endres, and Teddy Endres of Madison; two great-grandchildren: Adira Dodd and Elora Dodd; a brother Earl (Peggy) Holverson; in-laws Don Abel and June Thompson; an uncle Bud Carpenter, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Along with his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by his two sisters: Carol Otto and Ann Abel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Eldon Otto, Wallace (Edith) Nelson, Earl (Betty) Nelson, and Bud Thompson.
The Christian Funeral Service for Lowell will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton. Rev. Matthew Holtz will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until the Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, located at 8396 Steeple Hill Drive in Larsen.
Due to the on-going health situation, the family kindly requests that everyone wear a mask and practice social distancing. We want you to come, but we also want everyone to be safe.
We want to thank the wonderful medical staff and caregivers who provided Lowell with so much aid, support, and comfort.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society is suggested.
