PERSCHBACHER, LOUISE HARDER

Louise Harder Perschbacher, age 95, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away on June 4, 2005. Louise was born on July 11, 1909, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late George N. and Beryl (Crisman) Harder. She married Dr. Chester I Perschbacher on September 12, 1931; he preceded her in death on December 8, 1997. Louise and her twin sister, Evelyn Harder Perschbacher, graduated from Lake Forest Academy, Lake Forest, Illinois, and Mills College, Oakland, California. She devoted many years of service to the Fox River Valley community. Louise was a member of the Infant Welfare Circle of Kings Daughters from 1932. During WWII she served the Red Cross as Home Service Chairman for Outagamie County. She was a founder and charter board member of the Community Blood Center and served as president of the board from 1964 to 1979. In 1980 she was appointed active honorary board member for life. The CBC is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In 1992 Louise received a Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International of Appleton. Louise was a member of the Over the Teacups, North Shore Golf Club, Riverview Country Club and three bridge clubs. She was active in the Wisconsin Federation of Handweavers, Door County Weavers Guild and La Bay Weavers Guild. Louise was a charter board member and vice-president of the Fox City Artisans, Inc. As a Heritage Retirement Living Community resident since 1986, she established and managed its convenience center. Louise belonged to the First Congregational United Church of Christ for 64 years. Throughout her life Louise enjoyed reading, knitting, weaving, bridge, golf, photography and travel. As a volunteer she presented slide lectures for schools, art galleries and study groups in the area and various areas of the country. Louise’s well-lived life reflects devotion to her family and her community. She experienced the joy of seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and was especially interested in their education. She has a made a difference in lives she leaves behind. Louise has been a mentor and an inspiration to many. Survivors include her two daughters, Ann Perschbacher Kloehn, Appleton and Jean (Yuho) Fujio, Lincoln, Rhode Island; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Backlund Perschbacher, Golden, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Pam (Mark) Smith, Carrollton, Texas; Scott (Anne) Perschbacher, Thompson Station, Tennessee; William (Yvonne) Kloehn, Brookside, New Jersey; Julie (Dr. James) Lapkoff, Vero Beach, Florida; Kris (Fernando) Bachachano, Cancun, Mexico; Kurt Francis Fujio, Chicago, Illinois; and Kim (Robin) Fujio, Durham, Connecticut; her twelve great-grandchildren, Laura and Christina Smith, Colin and Ashley Perschbacher, John and Jennifer Kloehn, Megan and Cory Lapkoff, J.P. and Carolina Barbachano, and Kyle and Kayden Fujio. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Chester I. Perschbacher; her son, John Chester Perschbacher; her twin sister, Evelyn “Tommie” (Ray) Perschbacher; her sister, Isabel (Robert) Douglas; her brother, John (Barbara) Harder; and her son-in-law, Dr. John Sherman Kloehn. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18th, 2005, at STAR OF HOPE CHAPEL, Highland Memorial Park, Appleton, with Rev. John McFadden officiating. The Perschbacher family is grateful to Dr. Jack Anderson, caregiver Marie Otto, and the staffs of Home Instead Senior Care and Cherry Meadows. They also wish to thank the many in this community who have been so interested in her care.
