Bohrer, Louise Henrietta

Age 83, was lifted up on eagle's wings to be with her Lord when she died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday December 16, 2005. Louise was born in Seymour, WI June 28, 1922 to the late Henry F. and Louise A. (Falck) Wolk. She was christened August 9, 1922 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. Louise graduated from Seymour High School and attended Milwaukee State Teacher's College where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching position was as a kindergarten teacher in South Milwaukee. It was while she was teaching there that she met her husband Egon Bohrer. They became engaged just prior to Louise spending one year teaching in Compton, CA with her good friend Rosemary Mullarkey. Shortly after her return, on July 17, 1948, Louise and Egon were united in marriage at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour after which they honeymooned in Wisconsin Dells.

Louise's teaching career spanned 31 years including South Milwaukee, West Allis, Manitowoc and her final 24 years in the Neenah School System. She was honored as District Teacher of the Year by the State of Wisconsin in 1980. More importantly she was loved and revered by the hundreds of children she had the privilege to care for and educate. As an experienced and highly skilled teacher she was greatly respected and appreciated by her colleagues. Louise also brought the gift of humor and friendship to the professional arena. One of her joys in retirement was encountering her former students and their parents and learning how their lives had progressed.

Louise was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma professional teaching association. Louise's faith was central to her life. She expressed her faith through the way she lived her life. She was an active member of every church of which she was a member in Seymour, Milwaukee, Manitowoc and the Fox Cities. Since 1966, Louise and her family have been active members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and volunteered in many of the church's ministries. Her love of children was shared with the youth of Prince of Peace through music, song and story. Louise felt the community of Prince of Peace was more than a congregation, it was her family.

Louise's favorite place on earth was the family cottage on Loon Lake in Shawano County where she loved to share time with her family. Beginning with spending summers at the lake with her grandmother, Louise never missed an opportunity to enjoy a sunset, watch birds or dangle her toes in the water. She shared an intense interest in nature and conservation with Egon, her children and grandchildren. Louise and Egon supported numerous organizations protecting and revitalizing habitat. She was an avid reader and would never turn down an offer to go for a ride. Louise especially treasured the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

Louise was a devoted wife to Egon, loving mother to Tim (Martha) Bohrer, Chicago, IL, and Linda (Richard) Mitchell, Ashland, WI, and proud and doting grandmother to Anna and Gregory Bohrer; she is survived by her nieces Kathryn Bruhn and Elizabeth Brodak, her nephews Walter, Gordon, Ronnie and Gary Bohrer and their families. She was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives Frank and Selma Wolk and Robert and Alice Wolk, her sister Caroline and nephew Robert F. Wolk.

Funeral Services for Louise will held at 12 noon on Tuesday December 20, 2005 at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH 2330 E. Calumet St. with Rev. Gary Nokleberg and Rev. Roger McQuistion officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund is being established in Louise's name.

Louise's family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Pine Creek, Peabody Manor, Appleton where mom was cared for with tenderness and love. Additionally they would like to thank the medical staff of ThedaCare. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for the love and support received from the Prince of Peace church family; God has blessed us greatly through them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
