Age 75, died Wednesday evening, January 23, 2002, at his home of cancer. He was born July 25, 1926, to the late Dewey D. and Esther (Mueller) Schulze, in Appleton and grew up in Greenville, Appleton and Kaukauna. As a young man, Louis enjoyed horseback riding and during his life enjoyed reading western books. He served with the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received a degree in Accounting and Business Administration and had been employed by the Appleton Water Department for 35 years, retiring on January 2, 1992. Louis was a member of Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, the Oney Johnston-Edward Blessman American Legion Post #38 of Appleton, the Downtown Kiwanis, he was a Past President of the International Toastmasters, where he received many awards on the local level and Area N4 for his humorous speeches, he was a former member of the Appleton Elks Lodge #337, a member of the Wisconsin Section of the American Water Works Association, where he was a Past State Director and represented the state at the national level, he received the George Warren Fuller Award in 1990, Past President of the Fox Valley Bonsai Society, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Lake Forest Resort, time share, of Eagle River from 1990-1996. Louis is survived by his wife, Ethel J. (Semrow) Schulze, whom he married on August 1, 1953; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Mark Besore, Woodbridge, VA; Wendy and Daniel Weir, Greenville; four grandchildren, Andrew and Randall Besore, Marissa and Daniel Weir; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and James Minkebige, Kaukauna; a brother-in-law, Harold Gensler, Appleton; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. A sister Shirley Gensler preceded him in death. Funeral service for Louis will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, January 28, 2002, at MT. OLIVE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 East Florida Avenue, with Reverend Stephen Pope officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 – 7 pm Sunday and on Monday at the church from 3:00 pm until the time of the service. Entombment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Memorial funds have been established for Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church and the American Cancer society.
